Chicago Beauty Haul Part Two: The Body Shop

The Body Shop was another store I hit up while in Chicago over the weekend for a book signing (you can read part one of this haul here). I've never been one to really take care of my skin like I definitely know I should. I have been reading a lot about skincare on blogs and also eyeing a lot of The Body Shop's products online but was hesitant to purchase anything without giving them a smell and a try in store. So when I saw the store I couldn't help but go inside. I just so happened to go in on a day where they were having a Buy 3 Get 3 Free sale (hence the number of products I ended up walking out with). It worked out perfectly since I was basically starting from skin care scratch.

The super helpful sales guy pointed me in the direction of the Vitamin C line after I told him I had issues with discoloration and dullness. I got the cleanser which is super gentle and really feels like it's cleaning my face off. I'm not entirely sure how good it is at cleaning off makeup yet as I have yet to try it with a decent amount of makeup. Next is the exfoliating facial which I was encouraged only to use once a week. It's much more abrasive on the skin to get deep into the pores and clean everything out. One thing the the sales guy stressed was the importance of toner. It's going to help get any cleanser residue or other gunk off my face so when I put on the next steps nothing bad gets locked down into my pores.

I also got an eye cream which I'm really hopeful for. I'm tired of my pesky dark circles and really want to combat those bad boys! The facial radiance capsules are probably the coolest things I picked up from The Body Shop. They are these little orange pods that you break off the top of and squeeze the perfect amount of product onto your fingers before rubbing it on your skin. It instantly smooths your skin to silky smooth proportions. Insane.

And finally, last but not least is the moisturizer that is a really nice thick consistency. All the moisturizers I've used prior to this one are super watery. Although it's thick it isn't heavy on the skin and sinks in nicely for a wonderful finished face.

I'm incredibly satisfied with my purchase from The Body Shop and am interested in seeing how the products hold up after more use.

Stay tuned for Part Three of the Chicago Beauty Haul!

Planning Ahead

At Target $15

When November is in sight I start to get the itch to purchase my planner for next year. However I am very particular when it comes to my agendas. I literally stood in Target for ten minutes trying to figure out which one to get. For some odd reason it was pretty slim pickings. You would think with the new year being a couple months away they would start popping up, but maybe I'm just much more eager than most.

I picked up this Sugar Paper planner because I liked the large size of it, but its not too large. I definitely need the monthly and weekly views, but I've been considering getting one with the hour options for each day. However I gravitated towards this lovely planner but still have mixed feelings about keeping it or not.

What do you think of it? What do you do to stay organized and plan ahead? I'm always looking for new ideas and tips!

Chicago Beauty Haul Part One: MAC and NARS

Over the weekend I went with a couple of friends to Chicago. We were there for the Veronica Roth Allegiant book signing, but had some time on our hands during our trip. Epic shopping occurred. This post is Part One of three posts dedicated to all the wonderful products I purchased during the trip.

As you are well aware, I've been eyeing a number of different MAC lipsticks for quite a while now. However when I tried on in the store the two I was super interested in getting, I just didn't like how they looked on me. I ended up getting "Syrup". It's an amazing mauve color that basically is my lip color, but one hundred times better. It looks incredibly natural on the lips, but adds so much to my complexion. I couldn't be more happier to have such a fabulous lipstick in my collection!

Purchasing the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in “Vanilla” wasn't on the agenda for this trip, but I found myself in a Sephora and naturally gravitated to the NARS display. I've never purchased anything NARS before and definitely felt the urge to just get something. I have been reading ooddles upon oodles about the creamy concealer and its magic under the eyes and needed to see if it lives up to the hype. So far I've enjoyed it but we shall see with time.

Stay tuned for Chicago Beauty Haul Part Two: The Body Shop!

My Favorite Beauty Blogs #2

It's been two months since I posted my Top 5 Favorite Beauty Blogs post. Since then I've done quite a lot of browsing on Bloglovin' and have found a number of new blogs that I just can't go a day without checking up on. So I figured I would make this post a more regular thing to showcase my beauty blogs I've been loving lately. If you go check out their sites, tell them I sent you!

We Were Raised By Wolves

I really like this blog because she talks about a lot of different products that other bloggers don't seem to write about. Her photography is wonderful and she has a lot of unique types of posts. It's just a good blog to have part of your bloglovin' feed.

But first, coffee

Kallie is a complete sweetheart and has a super amazing blog that I find really easy to relate to. There are always those blogs out there that you read but know you'll never buy the products they're talk about. She's definitely not one of those types plus she posts inspirational things that are always a good plus. I just love her and her blog to pieces.

Her photography sold me instantly. So completely wonderful in a minimalist way that has the ideas and inspiration flowing in my brain whenever I look at her site. The blog is also incredibly consistent in a way that's just relaxing to read and before I know it I'm twenty posts in and don't know what time it is.

Lily Pebbles

I've been reading Lily's blog for quite a while and it's just one of those nice well-rounded blogs. Her makeup style is very reflective of my own so any makeup routine posts I devour almost immediately. Plus she's gorgeous.

Bow Tied Beauty

This blog talks a lot about natural skincare, something I have definitely been getting interested in (hell just skincare in general). The photos are these lovely vintage looking works of art that I find myself just staring at in awe quite often.

So if you have a free afternoon, explore some beauty blogs and fall in love! If you check out any of these lovely ladies' sites, let them know Kayla from MicroscopeBeauty sent you ( :

The 60 Day No Beauty Buy: Day 1

So I've been doing a lot of shopping lately. Like, a lot. More than I've ever done before it seems like. I just couldn't help myself! All these amazing products and money in the bank to afford them. That is until I bought so many new things that my bank account started looking sadder and sadder. A recent trip to Chicago (more about that and a video on my YouTube channel soon to follow) was the breaking point and I've decided I had to cool my jets for a while.

Thus begins The 60 Day No Beauty Buy. For 60 days I will (try really hard) not to buy any new beauty products or makeup except for refilling must have products (like shampoo and toothpaste). Every 10 days I'll post about how things are going, what struggles I'm facing, etc. and to have you guys help keep me honest!

So let the no beauty buy begin!

This Week's Most Loved #1

I often find myself really liking a handful of products and desperately wanting to share them with you and now have to wait for a favorites video. So I've decided to start these wonderful "This Week's Most Loved" posts! I'll be posting them every Sunday talking about 2-4 products I've really been enjoying for the last week.

The first product I've been loving this past week is an on and off again favorite. I often try to mix things up under my eyes in the hopes of finding the perfect dark circle fix, and The Bobbi Brown Corrector finds its way back into the routine quite often. Being my first expensive makeup product purchase ever, I was hesitant at first to invest so much into one tiny little product. I do love this little baby though. It's incredibly creamy and really helps to cancel out the purple under my eyes without looking to cakey. I do like to use a concealer alongside this little guy though as lately my circles have been at an all time high.

Elf blushes are my go-to choice when I just can't seem to decide which blush to wear. I've currently really been enjoying "Tickled Pink" for the subtle glow it adds to my cheeks. These blushes you definitely have to build up if you want a stronger color, but I tend to gravitate towards a more natural cheek tone.

I've really been appreciating my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder this week as its an incredibly light powder that's almost translucent. I've been staying away from my more obvious powders in favor of this light alternative. It sets whatever I've put on my face without causing me too much of a hassle.

Finally I had to include Essie's "Damsel in a Dress" this week as I've really been gravitating towards the darker fall shades this year. This one is a beautiful plum color with reflective flecks in it. It's simple yet wonderful.

What products have you been loving this past week?

New Polish Additions

So I may have gone a bit polish crazy in the last week or so (actually I went shopping crazy in general which you shall see soon when the orders come in). Once I picked up the two polishes from Essie's fall collection (post here), I couldn't be stopped.

You may recognize two of these polishes from a recent current wishlist post  They definitely didn't stay on the wishlist for long! I found myself browsing amazon looking for a good deal on them (I didn't end up paying the above sticker price at all!). "Electrify" is such an amazing glitter polish, but definitely needs to have another polish beneath it to really get the full effect of it. Silly me had no idea it came from the Hunger Games collection from 2012. It's such a unique shade that I'm super jazzed to have in my collection. "Orange, It's Obvious!" followed "Electrify" in to my basket pretty quickly.

The other three Essie polishes were purchased during one of those days from Hell you just want to be over as soon as they began. I ran a very late errand to the grocery store to pick up my cat Tardis some cat food since he was completely out and very hungry. I soon found myself in the nail polish aisle eyeing "Wrapped in Rubies" and "Damsel in a Dress" to help flesh out my pretty small collection of fall nail polish shades. As I was leaving the aisle my eye caught "Mojito Madness" and I just can't say no to a minty green shade.

Which color is your favorite?

First Impressions: Ipsy's October Glam Bag

It's been a couple of months since my last post about Ipsy. I contribute this to the fact that I was not only very busy with the start of my last semester of college (it's flying by for the record), but also to the fact that Ipsy has been pretty meh the past few months. I just wasn't excited to talk about any of the products. October's bag has fully restored my faith in Ipsy once again and I found myself itching to write a blog post.

First off the product variety in this bag is amazing. I was getting pretty tired of getting yet another NYX shadow, lip balm, and eye liner. October's bag only has one "makeup" product this time and strangely enough I'm very happy about this. I feel like I've gotten to the point where I'm ready to start exploring skin care more rather than just the makeup world.

There's also brands that I know of but haven't really gotten into like Big Sexy Hair, as well as brands I've never heard of. There's just something about a well curated beauty bag that has me all giddy inside.

Current Beauty Wishlist #1

Being so busy lately I haven't had the opportunity to do much shopping of beauty products. So my wishlist has continued to grow and has me itching to get these products.

Oh M.A.C. how I love you yet have never experienced your brillence. I've had this lipstick and the other one below on my wishlist for months. I'm getting to the point where I just need to buy them, but I am terrified of falling in love and my wallet being screwed! This lipstick is a very subtle maple mauve color that looks amazing on everyone who wears it (I've looked at a LOT of photos). It's just lovely!

My under-eye circles. Ugh. I can't rant enough about how much I dislike that area on my face! I've heard great things about the Origins brand and have been eyeing (wink wink, nudge nudge) this product for a while. I'm not sure I want to spend so much money on a eye cream though when there's no guarantee of anything happening. So it'll remain on my wishlist for a while longer while I make up my mind.

I stumbled upon this polish randomly and can't stop thinking about it. This baby screams autumn. I just love the gold-orange glow and its eye-catching quality. I want it!

I've been hearing a lot of talk on the YouTubes about the Sleek brand and I finally got to the point where I went to their website to check things out. They have some really great palette combinations and aren't very expensive. I'm all about new palettes so any excuse for a new one I'll take it. I've been really into using purple eye shadows lately, so this palette appealed to me above the others. I also like that there are still neutral shades!

My love of fall may have gone a little overboard with this one. I also have a weird obsession with the color orange so when I saw this guy I disregarded its ostentatious quality immediately and opted to love it unconditionally. I feel like this polish would look awesome underneath "Electrify".

Another M.A.C. polish that I really just need to by. Coral is such a flattering color and I've heard really great reviews about this one!

Essie's For the Twill of It Fall 2013 Collection

If you recall, I ended up purchasing Essie's entire Summer Collection (see the post here). This season I promised myself to have some restraint and only purchase the polishes I really liked from the new collection. I ended up getting just two of the six polishes. "Vested Interest" is a denim-esque shade with hints of green and blue. It's an amazing shade that's definitely unique in my collection. It looks amazing on the nails and has attracted a lot of attention when I'm out and about.

"For the Twill of It," the namesake of the collection, is my new favorite polish. It's a deep purple/maple color with a green reflective shimmer that really gives the polish personality and depth. It's unbelievably beautiful and  I highly recommend it after only having it on my nails for a couple of hours. If you were to get any polish from this collection, it should be this one!

Which colors are your favorite from the collection?

Review: Organix Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen Shampoo and Conditioner

This shampoo and conditioner didn't stay on my wishlist for long. I just had to check them out after falling madly in love with the Organix Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen Root Boost Spray. The shampoo and conditioner are both this light lavender color, and they don't smell like the Root Boost Spray like I had hoped. However the do smell really great. Fruity, but also a scent I still haven't been able to figure out a way to accurately describe. They are incredibly thick in consistency and leave my hair feeling slightly fuller and definitely very clean.

Sadly I don't think this product is my holy grail volumizing hair product. I'm still hunting for that magical product that is unbelievably wonderful. This combination is still really amazing though. The price is a little higher than I would like, but when I went to find a url for the purchase link I saw that they are currently buy one get one 50% off which makes them a lot more appealing if you're interested.

What's your favorite shampoo and conditioner?

Fall Decorating

Top Three: Bathroom
Middle Three: Living Room
Bottom Two: Kitchen

I feel like I'm not alone in my love for autumn. The crisp air, delicious food, and scarves. What's not to love? I'm in love even more this fall because I finally decorated my apartment for the first time! Before now I just never felt comfortable enough decorating with my past roommates. I'm not entirely sure why I used to feel that way, but now that I'm living with my boyfriend Alex, it was finally time to decorate! Everything I purchased was either from Dollar Tree, Dollar General, or WalMart. Overall I think I spent around $40 on everything since I started with nothing. I didn't go crazy, but the little touches here and there have really spiced up the place!

Have you decorated for the fall?

xoxo Kayla
