Opening a Cat Cafe: Why It's Good to Have Silly Dreams

Alex and I have this running joke that one day I'm going to open a cat cafe. You know, a cafe where you can go and drink coffee and pet a bunch of cats who just live in the cafe. It's a thing. I got it into my head one day that opening a cat cafe would be the life and it's taken on a life of its own. Now, I doubt I'll ever actually open up a cat cafe. I don't like coffee to start. But this dream of opening a cat cafe has become more than itself, and that's why having silly dreams is so important.

Because of this crazy idea we now have a litmus to judge places on. We want to live in an area where opening a cat cafe would be possible, because that kind of place is the perfect place for us. Somewhere whimsical that's ok with trying something new. Somewhere with younger people who know how to have a bit of fun. Sure we'll never actually open one of these cafes, but it's helped to lead us to a city that's perfect for us.

Silly dreams are what they claim to be, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have them. They can spark new ideas, lead to new discoveries, and take the boring out of the every day. Silly dreams help you to figure out what makes you happy, what your passions are, and where to go from there.

Just because a dream is silly, doesn't make it useless. If it weren't for cat cafes we wouldn't be moving to Grand Rapids where I know we'll fit in and find the life we hope to have. So keep dreaming those silly dreams. You never know where they might take you.

xoxo Kayla
